Expanding in multiple directions from her
experience as a painter and muralist, Human Shaped Animal creates a striking bouquet of multi-medium pieces. By cross-pollinating her original designs with digital fabrication and live plants she has reaped a mind- bending garden of complex form and moving stillness. Human Shaped Animal a.k.a Rachel Barnes currently resides in Santa Cruz, California. Her work trully came to form when she joined Idea Fab Labs Makerspace in California and began to experiment with a laser cutter. HSA work has been highly influenced by her connection formed with the jungle and the desert after spending extended time in the Amazon Rainforest, the Costa Rican Jungle, and learning natural building in the Mojave Desert. When not exploring new expressions of her own evolving work she is working in the world as a mural artist, creating stage installations, tattooing and learning natural building.
